Lone Wolf Terrorism Threatens Homeland Decade After 9/11 Attacks

Although lone actor terrorists represent a very small proportion (8 percent) of terrorists, they have been responsible for one-fourth of the terrorism incidents in the United States, according to a report provided toHomeland Security Today from the University of Maryland-based, DHS funded National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.

Moving forward, McCaul says the lesson is clear: “In the long term we must counter the ideology at the core of Islamist terror, because when left unchecked, it can spread to all corners of the globe in the same way communism and fascism led to decades of destruction.”
