Communication security/ Preloaded malware
Mobile malware known as DeathRing is being pre-loaded on factory-shipped
smartphones destined for the Asian and African markets, indicating that the
mobile handset supply chain has been compromised, according to Lookout in its
Enterprise Mobile Threats: 2014 Year in Review report.
Overall, the security firm found that mobile malware encounter rates in
the United States jumped 75 percent year-over-year in 2014.
To compile its report, Lookout analyzes threats encountered by its
sensor network of more than 60 million Lookout-enabled devices. The encounter
rate reflects the percentage of unique devices that encountered a threat last
year.
Another mobile threat that targeted enterprises last year is
NotCompatible.C malware, a proxy that enables attackers to infiltrate secure
corporate networks and has complex self-defense mechanism, allowing it to evade
detection and countermeasures, the report notes.
