Russia has reiterated an offer to Indonesia to expand defence industry
collaboration in a bid to consolidate its position in the market.
The Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the plan
is centred on the "development of defence offset schemes" that
encompass technology transfers, joint production in Indonesia of components and
structures, and the establishment of maintenance, repair, and overhaul service
centres in the country.
The MoD said the Russian ambassador to Indonesia,
Mikhail Galuzin, communicated the offer to Indonesian defence minister
Ryamizard Ryacudu on 15 January. This follows a similar proposal extended to
Indonesian president Joko Widodo by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at
the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in China in late 2014.
