Digital Forensics a Growing Industry in the United States
A recent report set out a bright future for the world of digital forensics. It is a career that has a tremendous amount to offer workers and is also a vital service for society in a number of different contexts. The balance between meeting the needs of law enforcement and keeping consumer data safe from abuse is a difficult one to strike. Most of us agree that we both need to be able to catch criminals, and with the evidence in the most serious cases of organized crime increasingly being found digitally, we clearly have a legitimate interest in breaking through security.
On the other hand, we as individuals are putting more and more information about ourselves online than ever before. We expect that information to be kept safe, but in accomplishing one of these goals we inevitably make the other harder. Digital forensicstherefore exists in something of a strange state, as every step it takes towards improving our security seems to feel like a step away from our privacy. And vise-versa of course!
