Oversight of spies


Security intelligence expert Wesley Wark at the University of Ottawa's Social Sciences Building.The near-doubling of funding for Canada’s chief security intelligence watchdog could signal a gradual move to a single super-agency to oversee the country’s expanding national security apparatus, say experts. Tuesday’s federal budget appears to have responded to widespread public concern about oversight of federal spies by upping annual spending for the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC).
