Capitalism for the communists: How the USSR penetrated the U.S. arms industry
With an underequipped Red Army, and lagging well behind Europe in military technology, the fledgling Soviet Union desperately needed to modernize its armed forces. However the ideological opposition to the new communist state and the lack of diplomatic ties with the leading powers meant that the USSR was forced to resort to subterfuge in order to acquire new technology.
