Combating drug trafficking
Federal agents have dismantled a major drug trafficking network that
allegedly shipped 130 kilograms of cocaine from the Rio Grande Valley to
Houston every week — and moved more than $100 million back to Mexico.
Agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration arrested four men and
a woman Thursday after tracking a cocaine shipment from Rio Grande City to
Edinburg, according to federal court records.
…The Drug Enforcement Administration charged all five with conspiracy to
knowingly and intentionally possess approximately 78 kilograms of cocaine with
intent to distribute.
Federal Magistrate Judge Peter E. Ormsby ordered them held until a
detention hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to court records.
