Decriminalization
President Barack Obama says the U.S. must continue
cutting its crime and incarceration rates by reforming its criminal justice
system. Obama met at the White House on Tuesday with
lawmakers from both parties who are working on criminal justice issues. Among
the 16 lawmakers were Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker.
The White House says Obama and the lawmakers discussed
ways they could collaborate to pass a "meaningful criminal justice
reform" bill this Congress. Obama is calling for a comprehensive package
that incorporates some ideas that lawmakers have already proposed.
