America’s top military commander in Afghanistan indicated Thursday President Barack Obama is reconsidering his plan to withdraw all combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2016, amid confirmation that the Islamic State group has made inroads in the already war-torn country.

Army Gen. John Campbell reportedly met with top officials at the White House on Wednesday before updating the Senate Armed Services Committee Thursday morning on the state of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, the name of the current U.S. mission in Afghanistan.
