Wisconsin law enforcement will start collecting DNA samples Wednesday from people arrested for certain crimes. DNA samples will be collected from people being arrested on violent felony charges and everyone convicted of a crime whether it be a misdemeanor or felony, according to a release. Wisconsin previously only required convicted felons and sex offenders to provide DNA, officials said. Wisconsin will be the 29th state to collect DNA at the time of a person’s arrest.“There is a huge investigative benefit to taking DNA at arrest by solving crimes and preventing future victimizations,” Attorney General Brad Schimel said in the release.
