Over 150 million paper £5 notes still in circulation just before tomorrow's deadline to use old fivers
About 150 million paper £5 notes - about three for every adult in the UK - remain with the public, according to the Bank of England .With tomorrow being the final note to use the old fivers, the central bank has revealed the cash stash of the old money still in circulation, the BBC reports.
That's about £750 million worth of currency in the old notes.
Time is running out if you want to use one of the old paper £5 notes, with tomorrow, Friday May 5, the final day the banknote is legal tender.
After tomorrow, you’ll only be able to spend the newer polymer £5 which has Sir Winston Churchill on it.
So the race is on to locate any old fivers you might have lying around the house, and get them spent.
