Trump to order probe into national security leaks
Donald Trump said on Thursday that he will order an investigation into the “deeply troubling” leaks that have embarrassed his administration on the heels of the Manchester terror attack.
The US president called on the Department of Justice and other agencies to open a “complete review of this matter, and if appropriate, the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”.
“The leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security,” he said in an emailed statement from the White House.
Mr Trump’s remarks come after US media disclosed details of the UK’s investigation into the bombing earlier this week that killed 22 people. British intelligence officials were furious over the disclosures that they worry could compromise their probe. Theresa May, the country’s prime minister, plans to confront Mr Trump on the issue later on Thursday.
