Of every business communicator, few have struck a bigger lightening rod than Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who blew the whistle on the agency’s practice of collecting private information and conducting targeted surveillance on thousands of citizens when he systematically provided evidence of these acts in 2013 to the press. In the aftermath of his leaks, Congress passed the Freedom Act in 2015 that ruled the activities unlawful and unconstitutional and led to reform.
