Obama's drone crimes

Last week, the Intercept website published a series of articles titled "The Drone Papers,"based on a trove of leaked documents from an unnamed whistleblower who is reportedly a member of the intelligence community and worked on the programs described in the files. As journalist Jeremy Scahill, one of the lead authors, explained:

The series is intended to serve as a long-overdue public examination of the methods and outcomes of America's assassination program...The public has a right to see these documents not only to engage in an informed debate about the future of U.S. wars, both overt and covert, but also to understand the circumstances under which the U.S. government arrogates to itself the right to sentence individuals to death without the established checks and balances of arrest, trial, and appeal.

ACLU FILES NEW APPEAL IN DRONE LAWSUIT

The Central Intelligence Agency is under renewed legal pressure to release “thousands” of records pertaining to its international drone war, followingan appeal filed Monday by the American Civil Liberties in Washington, D.C. The motion comes just days after The Intercept published an eight-part seriesbased on cache of secret documents detailing the U.S. military’s parallel reliance on unmanned airstrikes in the war on terror.

While The Intercept’s series, The Drone Papers, offered new insights into the Pentagon’s drone missions in Yemen, Somalia, and Afghanistan, the CIA’s covert drone war has largely remained an official black hole.

Intelligence chiefs are hunting for a new Edward Snowden-style whistleblower who has leaked classified details about America’s drone assassination program. 

CIA and Pentagon bosses are investigating after the publication of ‘The Drone Papers’ which includes Top Secret slides on how President Obama authorizes a kill.

The disclosure raises the prospect of a second Snowden-like figure, especially as the leak was published by the same journalists who worked with him before.

But unlike Snowden the single, anonymous source has already spoken out and expresses intense moral outrage over the drone strikes on theintercept.com.

The Next Snowden - New Whistleblower Leaks Huge Dossier on Drones & Obama’s Assassination Program

Newly leaked government documents have provided an unprecedented window into the secret U.S. drone assassination program across the globe. In the "Drone Papers," The Intercept reveals drone strikes have resulted from unreliable intelligence, stemming in large part from electronic communications data, or "signals intelligence," that officials acknowledge is insufficient. The documents also undermine government claims that the drone strikes have been precise. In Afghanistan, strikes on 35 direct targets killed at least 219 other people. Among other revelations, they also suggest the strikes have hurt intelligence gathering and that unknown male victims have been labeled as "enemies killed in action" unless evidence later proves otherwise. The documents were leaked to The Intercept by an unnamed U.S. intelligence source.
