Stray dog jumps into action as crossing guard, helps children safely cross street

A stray dog has become an internet sensation after jumping into action to help a group of children safely across a street.
It happened Friday in the former soviet republic of Georgia.
The pup was caught on amateur video barking at cars, tail wagging, as kindergarten students tried to cross a busy street. The kids were in the crosswalk with an adult, but not every driver stopped.
When it was safe, the self-appointed crossing guard walked the last steps with the group.
The person who shot the scene said the stray is named "Kursha" and lives in the neighborhood.

Before going through an E-Pass toll booth on Wednesday, Joshua Concepcion West, 27, allegedly used a remote control to drop down a black screen that covered his license plate, said Sgt. Kim Montes, a public affairs officer for the FHP.
West did not realize a state trooper in a marked FHP car was right behind him when he deployed the screen, Montes told ABC News today.
The trooper immediately pulled him over and arrested him after they passed through the toll booth, Montes said.

Traffic Deaths Climb By Largest Increase In Decades

Newly released government data paint a sobering picture of safety on the nation's roads and highways.
In 2015, the number of people who died in auto accidents reached 35,092, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a 7.2 percent increase over 2014. The last time there was such a large single-year increase was back in 1966 when Lyndon Johnson was president.
"Despite decades of safety improvements, far too many people are killed on our nation's roads every year," Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a press release announcing the new data. "Solving this problem will take teamwork, so we're issuing a call to action and asking researchers, safety experts, data scientists, and the public to analyze the fatality data and help find ways to prevent these tragedies."

License plate reader led police to man who killed reporter, cameraman

The man who authorities said infamously killed two Virginia television journalists Wednesday was tracked down by police via license plate reader technology, according to law enforcement.
A Virginia state trooper told a news conference Wednesday that she hit Vester Lee Flanagan's plate number on her first try along Interstate 66 around 11:20am ET. "As soon as it was entered, it came up with a positive hit that that vehicle just passed me less than three minutes earlier," she said. "I let my dispatch know that the vehicle has passed me and I attempted to catch up with the vehicle, which was travelling eastbound on 66."
