CNN Buries Its Own Poll Results on Trump’s Favorability. Guess Why.

His approval ratings have never been higher, including on Election Day 2016. Plus, he’s ahead of Biden in battleground states.

Well, that’s interesting, I thought, as I noted that the RealClearPolitics homepage stated that President Trump was tied for his all-time high in CNN polling. Then I went over to the CNN homepage for confirmation. Guess what I found?

The main story was about a church that lost 44 parishioners to COVID-19. The second-most prominent story told us that “Grocery Prices Are Soaring” (which is true if you think that a 2.6 percent increase in April should be called “soaring”), the third-most-prominent item told us, “Doctors treating coronavirus patients are seeing odd and frightening syndromes.” Running down the rail on the right we were given such important developments as “Man refusing to wear a mask breaks arm of Target employee,” “CNN Investigates: He’s willing to get Covid-19 to speed up vaccine efforts,” “Five surfers die after huge layer of sea foam hampers rescue” and “How coronavirus spread from one member to 87% of the singers at a choir practice.”

Only after all of this stuff did we learn that CNN has a new poll out, under the headline, “CNN Poll: Biden tops Trump nationwide, but battlegrounds tilt Trump.” Polls are expensive, news organizations tend to hype them breathlessly to generate headlines in rival media outlets, Wednesday was (obviously) a slow news day, and politics is one of CNN’s core topics.

75% of Russians Say Soviet Era Was 'Greatest Time' in Country’s History – Poll

Three out of four Russians think the Soviet era was the best time in their country’s history, according to a survey published by the independent Levada Center pollster on Tuesday.

Russians have expressed increasingly positive opinions about the Soviet Union over the years, with nostalgia toward the U.S.S.R. and approval of Stalin hitting record highs in the past year or so.

Just 18% of Russian respondents said they disagree with the idea that the Soviet Union was the best time in their country’s history, Levada said.

Despite this, only 28% of respondents said they would want to “return to the path that the Soviet Union was following.” Fifty-eight said they support Russia's “own, special way” and 10% said they preferred the European path of development.

Fear and loathing ahead of the British election

A month away from another national election, British voters aren’t exactly gushing with excitement. According to a poll released by YouGov on Monday, positive sentiment about the vote is scarce, with just 7 percent of the country admitting to feeling enthusiastic, let alone excited (5 percent) or proud (1 percent) about the upcoming election.

Instead, the atmosphere is one of fear and loathing. A quarter of the country actually said they would use the word “fear” to describe their feelings about the vote. Fifteen percent said they felt anger, while 14 percent said they were simply confused. And whether through aloofness or despondence, 27 percent said none of the words offered matched their feelings.

This grim appraisal of Britain’s election, due to be held Dec. 12, reflects the fact that for so many, the election reflects not progress but gridlock.

McLaughlin poll: 52% say impeachment is a 'stunt'

A new poll found 52% of Americans consider the Democrats' impeachment investigation of President Trump a "political stunt." The McLaughlin poll, the Gateway Pundit reported, also indicated 47% believe the president should not cooperate and 59% say it's just a waste of time and the Democrats "need to work with Republicans to solve the nation's problems. "Meanwhile, Breitbart reported, Gallup has admitted that its poll indicating 52% of Americans "now support Trump's impeachment and removal" may have included illegal aliens or non-citizen legal residents.Gallup also said it doesn't know how many of the poll respondents were registered voters.

Elizabeth Warren is now leading the 2020 polls

Sen. Elizabeth Warren now holds a slight lead in national polls of the 2020 Democratic primary, according to the polling aggregation site RealClearPolitics — the first time that she, not former Vice President Joe Biden, has led the race.

Warren’s new lead in national polls comes on the back of a Quinnipiac poll, released on Tuesday, which shows her leading the Democratic field: 29 percent of registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters said they would vote for her if the primary were held today. Former Vice President Joe Biden, now in second place, received 26 percent of the vote in the same poll. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), typically considered the other frontrunner in the race, had 16 percent.

The poll’s questions about the Democratic primary had a margin of error of 4.7 percentage points, so Biden and Warren are in a very close race. Notably, Warren also appears to be the only candidate with a steady upward trend in the RealClearPolitics polling average.

Voters See Trump’s Reelection Far More Likely Than Impeachment

Voters think President Trump has more to lose in the growing Ukraine controversy than leading Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden, but they still see Trump’s reelection as a surer shot than impeachment.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters think Trump is more likely than Biden to be found guilty of breaking the law in his dealings with Ukrainian officials. Thirty-four percent (34%) say Biden is more likely to be the culprit. Six percent (6%) believe both men are likely to be found guilty of criminal wrongdoing. Eight percent (8%) say neither is likely to be found guilty. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

But 46% think it’s more likely that Trump will be reelected in 2020 than defeated by the Democratic nominee or impeached, unchanged from late July.

Twenty-eight percent (28%) see a win by the Democrats’ candidate as more likely, down from 33% two months ago. Seventeen percent (17%) believe Trump is likely to be impeached before serving his full term in office, up from 11% in the last survey but down from a high of 29% when Rasmussen Reports first asked this question in late December 2017.

Eighty-two percent (82%) of voters say they have been closely following recent news reports about Trump’s and Biden’s dealings with Ukrainian officials, with 55% who have been following Very Closely.

Latest Polls Show American Voters Do Not Want Impeachment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced Tuesday that the House would begin a formal impeachment inquiry to streamline Democrats’ various investigations into President Trump, despite all the latest polls showing that the majority of American voters do not want impeachment.

Since July, polls have showed that at least half of American voters have opposed beginning impeachment or an impeachment inquiry. However, Democrats have decided that a whistleblower complaint alleging that Trump pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden’s son for corruption related to his work in Ukraine was a tipping point.

Recent polls show that the testimony of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller in late July did not even persuade voters to change their opinions on impeachment. Democrats are betting that this latest issue will — but a look at previous polls is not promising for them.

Poll: Elizabeth Warren Takes Commanding Lead in California, Biden Drops to Third

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is continuing to rise in the polls, dominating the field in California with an eight-point lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who overtook Joe Biden (D), according to a Capitol Weekly Tracking Poll released Monday.

The monthly tracking poll, conducted by Political Data Inc., surveyed 599 likely Democrat voters September 1-13, 2019, and found Warren in a commanding lead with 29 percent support. Sanders came in eight points behind with 21 percent support, causing Biden to fall to third with 18 percent support.

Once again, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) failed to crack into the top tier of candidates in her home state, garnering just 11 percent of the vote. Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) came in fifth place with seven percent support, followed by Andrew Yang (D) with four percent support, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) with two percent support, and Beto O’Rourke with two percent support. The margin of error was not immediately available...

Rasmussen Poll: Donald Trump Approval Rating Jumps to 53 Percent; Highest in Five Months

The latest poll reflects the highest approval rating for the president in five months, as the last time Trump got a 53 percent approval rating was in April 2019. 

Forty-five percent of likely voters disapproved of his performance as president.

The president’s approval rating dipped as low as 44 percent in late August but has steadily risen in September — a nine-point jump in 35 days.

Trump received a string of 53 percent approval ratings in February 2017 after he was inaugurated.

Rasmussen tracks daily results via 500 likely voters per night from telephone surveys as well as an online survey tool. The margin of sampling error for the full sample of 1,500 likely voters is +/- 2.5 percentage points.

Biden plunges, tied with Warren and Sanders in new national poll

A new national poll suggests a three-way tie between Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and former Vice President Joe Biden in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

And the survey – released Monday by Monmouth University – indicates a massive drop for Biden, the front-runner in the nomination race since before he declared his candidacy in late April. It also reflects an increase in support for both Sanders and Warren, the Democratic Party’s two progressive standard-bearers.

Sanders and Warren are both at 20 percent in the poll, with Biden at 19 percent. The former vice president plunged 13 percentage points from the 32 percent he stood in June in Monmouth’s last national poll on the Democratic nomination race. Sanders rose six points from the June poll, with Warren rising five points.

The Biden campaign took aim at the survey, telling reporters "this poll is an outlier that is contradicted by every measure of the national average."

Merkel warned: Far-right eurosceptic force set to win German state election on Sunday

...A poll released in Germany indicated the AfD, now the largest opposition party in the Bundestag, would be likely to take 23 percent of the vote in eastern Germany, followed by Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) with 22 percent.

In another blow for centrist parties, the far-left party Die Linke gained 14 percent of support in the poll, while the Social Democrats (SPD) came in fifth place with 11 percent.

The poll questioned 1,419 respondents from 25 July to 31 July, asking them “Which party would you vote for if general elections were next Sunday?”

It concluded: “The AfD has good chances in the upcoming elections to not only hold on to their successes of the last elections but to increase them.”

Brexit BOMBSHELL: New poll puts Brexit Party AHEAD of Conservatives for General Election

THE Brexit Party is on track to defeat the Conservatives at a General Election according to an extraordinary new poll which puts the party on 20 percent of the vote, versus just 19 percent for the governing Tories.

However the Conservatives would still take more seats, with 179 versus 49 for the Brexit Party. According to the poll Labour would win the election by taking 27 percent of the vote, allowing them to form a minority government. Applied across the country the poll suggests 46 Conservative MPs would lose their seats to the Brexit Party, including Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt and party chairman Brandon Lewis.

,,,Labour would take 316 seats, 137 more than the Tories, allowing them to form a minority government if supported by either the Liberal Democrats or SNP.

Oh Lordy: Americans Are Less Religious Now Than Ever Before

With Easter and Passover just around the corner, a new survey conducted by consulting company Gallup reveals that church memberships are at an all-time low in the US.

The poll, released on Thursday, shows that only 50 percent of the respondents declared belonging to church, synagogue or mosque in 2018. But this shouldn't be too much of a surprise since memberships have been steadily declining since 1998 — when 70 percent responded they did attend one of the three religious institutions.

This is also in line with the declining number of Americans who subscribe to religious beliefs — between 1998 and 2000, 90 percent of respondents stated that they had a religious affiliation. However, that number slipped to 77 percent between 2016 and 2018.

Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky ahead in first round of Ukraine election, exit polls show

Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky came out ahead in the first round of the Ukrainian presidential election on Sunday, according to exit polls.

Incumbent President Petro Poroshenko was in second place, according to an exit poll from a consortium of polling organizations broadcast on Ukrainian television. But former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko was close behind, and it appeared that she and Poroshenko would be vying for second place as results came in Sunday evening.

No candidate will win more than half the vote, according to exit polls. That means that Zelensky will face either Poroshenko or Tymoshenko in a run-off scheduled for April 21.

The exit poll from a consortium of polling organizations showed Zelensky with 30.4 percent, Poroshenko with 17.8 percent and Tymoshenko with 14.2 percent.

Poll shows two-thirds of Israelis think Netanyahu should resign if indicted

Over two-thirds of Israelis believe that Benjamin Netanyahu should resign if he is indicted for corruption, a survey indicated Friday, a day after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced his intention to file criminal proceedings against the prime minister.

The findings were part of the first polls published since the announcement, which also indicated that Netanyahu could be unable to form a governing coalition after the April 9 elections.

Mandelblit announced Thursday that Netanyahu will be charged with criminal wrongdoing in three separate cases against him, including bribery in the far-reaching Bezeq corruption probe, pending a hearing.

The decision marks the first time in Israel’s history that a serving prime minister has been told he faces criminal charges, and casts a heavy shadow over Netanyahu’s re-election campaign.

Immigration is top issue facing country: poll

A plurality of U.S. voters point to immigration as the most important issue facing the country, according to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill on Tuesday.

Thirty-eight percent of respondents said that they see immigration as their top issue – more than the 36 percent who said health care is the most important matter in the country.

The findings come as a deadlock between President Trump and congressional Democrats over funding for a border wall drags a partial government shutdown into its fifth week.

The findings also suggests that the topic of immigration could play an outsize role in the 2020 election cycle, when Trump will seek a second term in the White House.

“Immigration is surging as the top issue in the country, displacing healthcare,” said Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll.

Poll: 8-in-10 call illegal immigration a ‘problem,’ 58% say ‘serious

Most Americans believe that illegal immigration is a problem but are split over what to do about it, according to a new survey.

The latest Economist/YouGov.com poll found that 84 percent believe illegal immigration is a “problem” for the United States.

And of that, 58 percent called it a “somewhat serious” to “very serious problem.” Another 26 percent called it a "minor probem," and only 10 percent said illegal immigration is "not a problem" .

...And as the current government shutdown has show, the nation is split on building President Trump’s border wall. Some 43 percent support it and an equal percentage, 43 percent, oppose it, said Economist/YouGov.com.

Attitudes about the shutdown are split on political lines. Republicans blame Democrats for not giving Trump $5 billion for the wall and Democrats blame Trump for being stubborn.

Dems' midterm advantage narrows among registered voters as Trump's approval rating rises, poll finds

A new national poll a few weeks before the midterm elections shows the chances of a "blue wave" are far from a slam dunk for the Democrats.

The NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday shows 48 percent of registered voters would prefer having the Democrats in control of Congress, compared to 41 percent supporting the GOP. That 7-point gap has narrowed from the 12-point gap the Democrats had in September.

The poll also showed President Trump’s approval ratings at their highest yet: 47 percent. The poll showed 49 percent disapprove.

“The current data shows that the Democratic advantage has ebbed but still with a large advantage. And the GOP shows some life,” Democratic pollster Fred Yang, who conducted the poll alongside Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Hart Research Associates, told The Wall Street Journal.

Democracy Enjoys An All-Time Appreciation, Says Datafolha

The appreciation for democracy has never been so high among Brazilians, a Datapolha poll found out. To 69% of voters (all citizens between the ages of 18 and 65), the democratic regime is the best form of government.

This is the highest rate since 1989, at the time of the first election for president after the end of the military dictatorship (1964-1985), when Datafolha surveyed the question for the first time.

The approval rate increased when compared to the last Datafolha poll on the subject, from June 2018. Back then, 57% of voters elected democracy as the best form of government.

In the current presidential run, the two frontrunners - Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) and Fernando Haddad (PT) - mentioned the possibility of a new Constitution in case they are elected.

NBC News/WSJ poll: Democrats hold the advantage in November's elections

Six weeks before the 2018 midterm elections, Democrats hold a 12-point lead in congressional preference among registered voters, with nearly six-in-10 saying they’d like to see significant change in the direction President Donald Trump has been leading the country, according to a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

The results suggest a political environment where Democrats have the clear advantage in their pursuit to win back control of Congress in November.

“Americans are hitting the brake in a midterm, and trying to send the signal that they’re not satisfied,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollsters at Hart Research Associates.

“The public is clearly saying, once again, they want to shake up the status quo,” added Democratic pollster Fred Yang.
