Combating drug trafficking

$2.3 million sent by Garnett Smith to suppliers in California.U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents busted a drug trafficking ring Thursday that allegedly smuggled large amounts of cocaine from Hidalgo and Starr counties and sent more than $100 million into Mexico, authorities say.
Four men and one woman were arrested in connection to the network that smuggled around 130 kilograms of cocaine from Rio Grande Valley to Houston every week and sent illegal proceeds to Mexico since October 2013, according to court documents.
Jose Edgar Garcia, 26, Jacob Garcia, 24, Raquel Molina, 59, Guadalupe Molina, 79, and Santana Villareal-Gallegos, 30, face federal charges of conspiracy to knowingly and intentionally possess about 78 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.
