DARPA's plan to beef up the infantry

DARPA is looking for technologies to improve the sensors and weapons of the dismounted infantry squad.

The Squad X Core Technologies (SXCT) program will focus on four areas:

•          Squad-level sensors to detect potential threats out to 1 kilometer.
•          Enable soldiers to determine their locations to less than 20 feet in GPS-denied environments, through collaboration with embedded unmanned air and ground systems.
•          Squad-level precision weapons effective out to 1 kilometer.
•          Non-kinetic means for the squad to disrupt enemy C4ISR and unmanned vehicles.
