US Air Force developing hypersonic Mach 5 air vehicle
The US Air Force is working with the Pentagon and DARPA to build a new high-speed aircraft, but “high-speed” is a bit of an understatement in this case. The plan is to have a vehicle in the air by 2023 that is capable of traveling at speeds in excess of mach 5. It builds on the successful test of an experimental vehicle called the X-51A, which was tested back in 2013.
