UNICEF Says Cuba Makes ‘History’ by Eliminating Vertical Transmission of HIV

The United Nations Children’s Fund, or UNICEF, called on Thursday Cuba’s achievement of being the first country in the world to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS virus, “historical.”

“This historic milestone (...) has been possible thanks to the efforts of health authorities (of Cuba) to ensure prenatal care, childbirth attended by qualified personnel and access to HIV testing and antiretroviral treatment,” said UNICEF from its regional headquarters in Panama.
