Germany Develops Scalable Explosive Output for Bombs, Warheads

A new technology which allows military forces to select the explosive output of ammunition has been developed by German company TDW, Defense Aerospace reported.

The ability to select explosive output in the battlefield is also known as "scalable effects" or "dial-a-yield."

Currently, military forces are limited to weapons with fixed explosive charges and cannot reduce the effects.

The technology was demonstrated on October 21 at the UK Ministry of Defense’s Otterburn Test Range.

During the tests, the technology was integrated into two identical Mk-82 bombs containing the same quantity of explosive. Two separate firing were carried out – one at minimum output and the second at maximum output.
