Chemring Awarded Next Generation Chemical Detection Contract From US Army

Chemring Detection Systems, part of the Chemring Group PLC (“Group”), announces that it has been awarded initial funding on a contract option valued at $3.06 million to build final prototypes for the US Army’s Next Generation Chemical Detector (NGCD) Surface Contaminant Locator program. Work will begin immediately at the company’s Charlotte, NC office and will be completed by June 2017.

The NGCD Technology Development program defines requirements for three NGCD variants: a Multi-Sample Identifier, a Surface Contaminant Locator, and a Platform/Site Air Monitor. The Joint Project Manager for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Contamination Avoidance is conducting the NGCD program to fill known operational gaps in chemical detection.

The three variants are being developed to detect, identify, quantify, alarm and report on diverse chemical species in any phase of matter. These variants will support multiple mission events including chemical release, site assessment, and decontamination.
