How European Are Europeans?

Britain EU
How European do Europeans really feel? It’s a pretty abstract question, but one that has some important implications for the continent’s top politicians. After all, the fewer people that actually feel European, or think that a united Europe is a good thing, the harder it becomes for the European Union to hold together as a bloc.
A new “European Convergence Index” developed by the online polling firm YouGov for Handelsblatt Global tries to gauge that level of support for the European Union project. The idea is to go beyond the simple question of “in” or “out” when it comes to E.U. membership, and ask whether or not Europeans are converging around the idea of a single Europe. It’s part of a broader survey that asked Europeans and Americans about a host of security issues.
The findings? In short, Europeans don’t have any great affiliation to their neighbors, the continent or the E.U.
