Swath of Midwestern States Prepare for ‘Potentially Crippling’ Ice Storm
Several Midwestern states are preparing for power outages, downed trees and impassable roads as the National Weather Service warns of a “potentially crippling” ice storm headed their way this weekend.
Ice storm warnings are in effect from the Texas Panhandle to Southern Illinois, and up to an inch of ice buildup is possible in some places, “which is enough to cause severe travel disruptions and power outages,” according to the National Weather Service.
The storm is expected to hit eastern Kansas and western Missouri hardest. The Weather Channel called it a potential “multiday icing event,” which could last until early Monday.
