security must be under the absolute leadership of the CPC's efficient and
unified command.
The Political Bureau
of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee warned that China was
facing unprecedented security risks and should remain on alert.
The bureau convened on Friday for a
meeting on security, it was presided over by President Xi Jinping who is also
general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
A national security strategy guideline
was adopted at the meeting.
According to a statement issued after
the meeting, risks were unpredictable so the country must always be mindful of
potential dangers.
The statement said China will protect
its security in "a pattern [consistent] with Chinese
characteristics", firmly protect its core interests -- with the safety of
its people as its main mission -- and safeguard national security through
reform and economic development.
