Germany: Saudi Arabia Is Weakening The Middle East
Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Saudi ArabiaFrankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, a leading German newspaper, reports that the BND is also concerned about Saudi Arabia’s “impulsive intervention policy” affecting regional stability.
The German intelligence agency is predominantly worried about the Saudi Arabia-led intervention in the Yemeni Civil War as of March 2015; Saudi Arabia is leading a group of nine Arab countries in support of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, against the Houthi tribal uprising in the country. Operation Decisive Storm has invited criticism from the global community on charges of creating a humanitarian crisis on the ground. The coalition’s military offensive ended April 2015, with Saudi Arabia calling for a change in focus “from the military operations to the political process”.
The BND is also reportedly unsettled that the kingdom’s rising tensions with Iran and the threat of proxy wars may prove to weaken the Middle East as a whole.
