Cybercriminals getting better, enterprise defenders losing confidence, Cisco report finds
Cybercriminals are becoming better organized and funded, while businesses are growing less confident in their ability to prevent attacks, according to Cisco's Annual Security Report released Tuesday.
Cybercriminals are tapping into legitimate funding sources as well as money generated from their attacks, such as ransomware, the report noted.
At the same time, only 45 percent of enterprises surveyed by Cisco have confidence to prevent attacks, determine the scope of a compromise and remediate damage.
The number of enterprises with up-to-date security infrastructure fell by 10 percent between 2014 and 2015. Most Internet devices in the enterprise are running known vulnerabilities, and 31 percent of all devices analyzed are no longer supported or maintained by the vendor.
