WW2 hero who stormed Nazi U-boat to capture top-secret Enigma machine dies
Lieutenant-Commander David Balme bravely helped retrieve the top-secret Enigma code machine from a stricken Nazi U-boat in icy waters.
The device was subsequently used by Alan Turing and his code-breaking team to translate intelligence messages from Germany, and was credited with saving countless lives.
The high ranking seaman and his crewmates on destroyer HMS Bulldog stormed the abandoned German submarine on May 9, 1941.
