Churchill ‘spy’ tunnel to become national treasure
Churchill ordered that the Germans must never discover the location of the IN-Station, also known as a Zero Station, on a private estate at Pinebanks in the Norfolk village of Thorpe St Andrew.
Zero Stations were part of a secret wireless network operated mostly by civilian agents, set up in 1940 by Winston Churchill to combat the increasing threat of German invasion.
It's thought just 32 of the bunkers were built in England during the war, with just a dozen discovered so far and the Pinebanks station is one of the most intact examples.
The bunker, which received messages from OUT-Stations in enemy-occupied areas, was found by a retired groundsman in the gardens of Pinebanks.
