CBP: Three arrested in drug-smuggling attempts
Three women were arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers at the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz., during two weekend drug-smuggling attempts, according to a press release from CBP.
In the first instance, a 30-year-old Yuma woman was arrested on July 15 after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the back flooring area of a Mazda sedan. Officers found 28 pounds of methamphetamines, valued at approximately $85,000, according to the press release.
Then, on July 17, a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted officers to a Dodge sedan, occupied by a 19-year-old driver from Pasadena, Calif., and her 21-year-old passenger. Officers found more than 300 pounds of marijuana in the trunk, valued at over $150,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicles, and turned the women over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, according to the press release.
