Homeland Security Expert: Expect more police to use robots and explosives
Until last week, no law enforcement agency in the country had used a bomb robot to kill a shooting suspect. Now, one homeland security expert believes that we could see more police departments follow Dallas’ lead.
Homeland Security expert Dr. Danny Davis warned that more law enforcement agencies across the country will resort to using robots and explosives to contain deadly threats. Davis is a retired Army lieutenant colonel and professor of homeland security at the Bush School of Government and Public Service in College Station.
"The thing that really jumped out at me is the use of explosives to kill the perpetrator... There's a fear out there about the militarization of police and this is a good example of taking it a step in that direction," Davis said.
That's why Davis wants elected leaders, as well as city and state authorities, to start talking about this. The Texas A&M professor isn't against what Dallas police decided. Five officers were killed and several others injured. Negotiations had broken down. There was an exchange of gunfire, and a threat to kill more officers.
