THE SPY WHO LIKED ME

Real-life James Bonds struggling to become MI6 spies because their fake Facebook profiles aren’t good enough to fool villains

A computer hackerRECRUITS hoping to join the ranks of Britain’s top spooks are being turned away because they’re too trigger happy — on FACEBOOK.

Real-life James Bonds are leaving too obvious an online trail of activity — making them easier targets for enemy agents.

It has left MI6 chiefs hitting out at the rise of social media because it is now more difficult for potential spies to remain in the shadows.

That’s according to Nigel Inkster, former director of operations at the foreign intelligence agency.

He said the tool that was indispensable to spies just a few years ago — the ability to adopt different personas — is today nearly impossible because of the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

“The days in which intelligence officers could plausibly adopt different identities and personas are pretty much coming to an end”, he told the Financial Times.
