National security

U.S. goes hard on national security, while Canada softens

Trudeau and trump
U.S President-elect Donald Trump made two of his top national-security picks this week. Both are hard-a**es on Islamic extremist terrorism.

That makes Mike Flynn and Mike Pompeo bad news for Canada’s Trudeau government, and for the forces of political correctness everywhere. But that makes both good news for the safety of the free world.

Finally, after eight years of the Obama administration’s stupefying denial of the obvious – that the greatest threat to world security at the moment is radical Islam – the American security apparatus will once again be able to call the enemy by name and confront the extremists head on.

That doesn’t necessarily mean more wars, such as those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Large-scale “boots on the ground” operations are seldom likely to be the most effective means of stopping terrorists. Covert special operations, cutting off terrorists’ funding at the source, countering extremists’ recruiting efforts and cyber attacks are all likely to produce better results.
