Snowstorm Blankets Northeast


Vehicles drive through snow as they approach the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, N.J., on Thursday. Drivers were being warned to stay off the roads.
More than 600 flights were canceled at both Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and New York City’s LaGuardia, with nearly 500 flights canceled at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Long Island is bracing for 50 mile per hour winds and up to 18 inches of snow in blizzard conditions. The National Weather Service reported that parts of Long Island had more than 5 inches of snow as of 9 a.m.
“After teasing us yesterday with a spring like day, Mother Nature reminded us today that we are still in the middle of winter,” said Steve Bellone, Suffolk County executive.
