Threat: The House of Lords has been warned it could be abolished if it attempts to block BrexitThe House of Lords was last night warned it could be abolished if it tries to block Brexit after a landmark bill cleared the Commons by a thumping majority.
Theresa May crushed attempts by pro-Remain MPs to thwart Britain's EU exit by tabling dozens of amendments designed to tie her hands in negotiations with Brussels.
MPs voted by 494 to 122 to pass the EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill – a majority of 372. The legislation now moves to the Lords, where pro-EU peers are threatening to hijack it.
