Gun control

Bill proposed to ban assault weapons in Illinois

A new bill has gun advocates worried about an outright ban on firearms.
State Rep. Martin Moylan (D - Des Plaines) introduced a bill last week, hoping to end the sale of bump stocks like the one used by Stephen Paddock in Vegas, which essentially turned his rifles into fully automatic weapons.
Moylan also wants to ban the sale of assault weapons, including .50 caliber rifles and high capacity magazines.
Moylan has not responded to a request for comment from News 3 but he told the Illinois News Network that those types of weapons are for mass destruction and should be reserved for military or trained officials.
Gun rights groups have come out against the bill, including the Illinois State Rifle Association.
