Extreme weather events are considered the number one global risk this year, the World Economic Forum says
Extreme weather events are considered the number one global risk in 2019, according to the World Economic Forum.
In its annual Global Risks Report released on Wednesday, the WEF said environmental risks dominated the list given the number of storms, fires and floods that occurred globally last year.
An inability to mitigate or adapt to climate change came in at second on the list of the most likely risks facing the world in 2019.
While extreme weather was the risk of greatest concern, the WEF said world decision-makers were increasingly worried about environmental policy failure, including the failure of governments and businesses enforcing effective measures to mitigate climate change.
