Sandoval still faces federal charges in connection with the investigation, which culminated in his arrest at the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office March 13. He was indicted by a federal grand jury April 14 on two counts of theft of government property, one of which stemmed from his purported theft from the FBI agents which Herrera confessed to abetting. Sandoval was also indicted on a charge of drug trafficking due to allegations he stopped the vehicles of undercover agents three times since the summer of 2014 while on patrol as a Colfax County Sheriff’s deputy, found drugs as well as cash and offered to escort the vehicles out of his jurisdiction in exchange for a portion of the drug profits.
