Confused about the situation in the Middle East? This should help clear it up
This week a dangerous new front opened up in the broader sectarian conflict currently raging across the Middle East.
A coalition of mostly Gulf Arab states led by Saudi Arabia has launched air-strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Embattled Yemeni president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is believed to be on his way to Egypt to discuss the next stages of the offensive after reportedly fleeing Yemen in a boat.
Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia's move is part of a regional contest for power with Iran currently playing out across the Middle East.
The links to the Shia Houthi rebels are somewhat unclear, but Tehran does back the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad and Iranian-backed militias are currently playing a key role in the fighting in Iraq.
