Police and Crime Commissioner accuses Government of 'gambling' with public safety in West Yorkshire
THE Government was last night accused of "gambling" with public safety by slashing police budgets and the number of officers.
The warning by West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson came as it was yesterday revealed that recorded crime has gone up by eight per cent in the county.
The latest crime figures also show recorded sexual offences have soared by 72 per cent in West Yorkshire with violent offences up by 45.5 per cent.
The police commissioner's comments were backed by West Yorkshire Police Federation chairman Nick Smart, who said that with fewer officers and less money comes greater risk for the public.
