Home Guard to Help Denmark Carry Out Border Control – Justice Minister
The Home Guard’s involvement in monitoring Denmark’s internal Schengen border will allow the government to redistribute 125 police officers to other districts, according to the statement.
"The government has decided that the Home Guard will assist the police in connection with border controls. We have competent militias, which may contribute to the situation we are in," the statement published Tuesday by the Justice Ministry reads.
He added that the volunteers would undergo training under auspices of the police academy.
The European countries are currently struggling to manage a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people leaving conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa to ask for asylum in more stable and prosperous European states, such as Denmark.
