Border Police officers crack egg-smuggling plot
Border Police officers foiled a plan on Sunday to smuggle some 9,000 unmarked, unauthorized eggs into Jerusalem from the West Bank.
The intercepted mini-bus at the Hizme checkpoint contained 300 packages of eggs that did not undergo inspection, kept in poor condition, and which authorities say could have posed a serious threat to public health.
The eggs were confiscated immediately and destroyed by officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, according to the Hebrew-language media.
The 21-year old driver was detained, questioned and released. An initial investigation revealed that the eggs were on their way to be sold to different commercial establishments in Jerusalem.
