Northrop Grumman unveils new multifunction, multimission robot
Northrop Grumman has unveiled a new mid-sized unmanned ground vehicle for first responders, military services and bomb squads.The Nomad multifunction robot — targeted at explosive ordnance disposal, among other missions — meets Interoperability Profile standards set by the Department of Defense to ensure interoperability between different models of ground robot.
The Nomad, made by Northrop Grumman subsidiary Remotec, weighs 164 pounds and measures 35.5 inches long, 23 inches wide and 26 inches high (or 42 inches high when the mast is fully vertical).
“Nomad’s manipulator arm has a lift capacity of 15 pounds when fully extended and impressive dexterity through extensive shoulder pitch, shoulder rotation, elbow pitch and wrist roll abilities,” said a Northrop Grumman news release.
