Beware ‘Slaughterbots’: PSA Highlights Danger of Autonomous Weapons

Humans can barely operate weapons responsibly. So should we supply autonomous machines instead?

The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots (as its name suggests) doesn’t think so.

“Many of the world’s leading AI researchers and humanitarian organizations are concerned about the potentially catastrophic consequences of allowing lethal autonomous weapons to be developed,” according to the umbrella group’s website.

In an effort to gain support for an international treaty limiting such technology, The Future of Life Institute last week released a short film, appropriately titled “Slaughterbots.”

The seven-and-a-half-minute PSA is not for the faint of heart.
