Two Auckland pools closed after discovery of legionella

Legionella was found in a spa pool in Manurewa in December.
An Auckland Council spa pool has been closed after the discovery of the bacteria causing Legionnaire's Disease.
It follows an earlier finding of legionella bacteria in another Auckland public pool.
A spa pool at the Tepid Baths in the central city was closed last week after the bacteria was detected.
Spa pools in all the council's leisure facilities have been given an additional chemical clean as a precautionary measure following the detection of the bacteria, city officials say.
The spa pool at the Tepid Baths was closed on Thursday after testing showed the presence of legionella bacteria.
It was treated according to procedures recommended by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) and would only reopen once negative test results had been returned, which is likely to take two weeks, the council said.
As with the Tepid Baths, the Manurewa spa pool was also closed, treated and retested, and reopened once a negative test came back.
