Paris attacks 'would not have happened' without encrypted apps hiding terror plans from security agencies, says NSA chief

Michael Rogers, the head of the National Security Administration, has said encrypted phone apps are making it 'much more difficult' for spies to detect terror attacks before they happenThe head of the National Security Administration has said the terror attacks in Paris that killed 130 people 'would not have happened' if it weren't for encrypted communications apps.
Michael Rogers, speaking to Yahoo News, said the spread of smartphone apps that hide the content of messages from authorities are making it 'much more difficult' to stop terror attacks.
Addressing last year's Paris attacks directly, he said security agencies were hindered from generating intelligence ahead of time because of apps such as Telegram.
Rogers added: 'Clearly, had we known, Paris would not have happened.'
Encrypted phones are also proving a hindrance to security services as the FBI admitted it has been unable to hack into the iPhone used by the San Bernardino terrorists.
