G7 Could Request Airlines Submit Passenger Information to Tackle Terrorism
On April 10-11, the Japanese city of Hiroshima will host the meeting of the foreign ministers of the G7 member states, comprising the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Canada.
The G7 foreign ministers are expected to agree on a new system to request airlines to provide their passengers' itinerary information to improve the efficiency of their counterterrorism efforts, Kyodo news agency reported, citing its sources, on Sunday.
According to the news agency, the ministerial meeting could also result in a pledge to use Interpol data more thoroughly.
Countries across the globe have been boosting their security measures following a number of high-profile terrorist attacks, such as the ones in Brussels on March 22 and in Paris on November 13 in the face of the threat posed by terrorist groups.
