CBP stops large drug smuggling attempt

Yesterday, U. S. Customs and Border Protection
released that over the last weekend officers working at the El Paso port of entry made a 50.8 pound methamphetamine seizure, with a estimated street value of the seized contraband is $1,625,600. The seizure took place on Saturday April 9 just before 10 a.m. after they stopped a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer with a lone driver arrived at the Paso Del Norte international crossing from Mexico. The vehicle was being driven by a lone driver, a 46-year-old female U. S. citizen from Dallas, who was informed her vehicle was selected for a secondary exam after a primary inspection was completed.
As the secondary exam was being performed “Tiran”, a CBP drug sniffing dog, searched the car and alerted the officers to narcotics in the rear area of the vehicle. CBP officers scanned the vehicle with the Z-portal x-ray system and spotted anomalies in the appearance of the rear
tires. As they continued their exam they removed the tires and upon inspection discovered a custom manufactured metal collars bolted to the rims of the wheels.
