Airline security 'cannot screen for hoax bombs', experts warn

Airports are powerless to stop passengers from smuggling on board the kind of fake bombs that sparked this weekend's major security alert on an Air France flight, flight safety experts have warned.

A fake explosive device forced an Air France flight into an emergency landing in Kenya on Sunday, forcing hundreds of passengers to evacuate and causing knock-on travel chaos.

It was the fourth bomb hoax against the airline in recent weeks, and part of a wider spate of false alarms in the wake of last month's Paris terror attacks and the downing of a Russian jet in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikhresort.
