'Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!' Trump orders Homeland Security to step up Extreme Vetting Program in wake of NYC attack
Hours after a terrorist attack left eight people dead and several others injured in New York City, President Donald Trump said he's asked the Homeland Security department for a heightened vetting program.
'I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!' Trump tweeted Tuesday night around 9pm ET.
A few hours earlier, he said that the U.S. cannot allow 'ISIS to return or enter' the country after 'defeating them in the Middle East,' stoking fears that Sayfullo Saipov, the man responsible for the attack in New York City was a returned ISIS fighter.
'We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!' Trump tweeted.
The president did not indicate where he was getting his information, though the 29-year-old driver was identified as a citizen of Uzbekistan who came to the U.S. in 2010 and has used addresses in Florida and New Jersey.
